I have had the pleasure of visiting and working on the islands of Hawaii, I have learned a lot about the different conditions on the Islands and am involved with numerous projects there and of course am enjoying designing/consulting/building there as well as design work on the mainland. I began my career learning how to build log homes from my father, a second-generation log builder. Vandecar Logwork Design Group specializes in design, drafting, construction and consulting for log home buyers and builders.

If I don't know the answer to your question I will find someone who does. After 35 years in the log home industry, I have run into about everything that usually comes up. I have done design and drafting for blueprints for many log firms in the Pacific Northwest. I've expanded my company to pursue additional services which include construction of log homes using native Pacific Northwest woods.

I am familiar with all aspects of log construction: Swedish Full Scribe, Butt and Pass, Log Post and Beam, Milled, Dovetailed, Log Timber Frame and Handcrafted Traditional Chinked buildings.

I'm also familiar with all of the specialized components used in log construction including finishes, chinking and caulking, as well as the custom hardware that is not generally found in the market place. I use the most advanced computer form of 3-D drafting to complete your design. You will be able to view your design if full 3-D from the comfort of your home or office and take all the time you need to review your home at your leisure. This allows you to make modifications inexpensively as your design progresses to its completion.

In addition to log work designing and drafting, I also consult for customers who have questions relating to the cost and construction of your home: the different forms of construction available, the various types of log components available, technical information relating to the options you may consider for your new home.

The design process starts with preliminary drawings that help you to design a floor plan layout that works for you and your family. It progresses to complete blueprints ready for your building department and lending agency.

I have specialized in log work design as a component system for over 15 years. This method of construction uses a combination of conventional framing and logs. Component systems offer most of the visual impact of logwork without many of the extra steps used in full log construction. This can include such items as decorative support posts, fireplace mantels, stair systems, log window sills and interior log ceiling beams, exterior corner and intermediate posts, built-in log benches and beds. The only real limit is your imagination.

In addition to regular stick framing as a component in your log home, I have successfully used many SIP panel (structural insulated panels) as a regular component in all Hi-bred post and beam homes , I am proud to use R-Control Products exclusively as well as many Of R-Control panel components in your initial design. R-Control products when used in accordance with my design specifications cut down on the construction timeline as well as provide the most energy efficient roof construction system available to date.

With all of the different alternatives available to you, when using R-Control as your panel source you will be pleased with your decision to use R-Control. The difference becomes clear when you know all the facts before purchasing inferior products. R-Control is the only panel company that uses a post production application of Frameguard, A mildecide that protects the roof and wall system from mold and mildew growth and extends the warrantee from bug infestation for twenty years.
